Smoked pressed tofu products make it easier than ever to add near-perfect
protein to your day. This convenience food is ready to be sliced and eaten
as is in salads or sandwiches, or cooked in stir-fries and braises. Not all
tofu tastes the same, so try different brands to find one you like. It also
comes in several flavors: Look for plain smoked, Thai seasoning, barbecue or
lemon-garlic flavors at your supermarket or whole-foods store. Fat content
varies, so if you're counting calories, try a low-fat brand.

Catch the fitness wave -- burn more calories under water. Jump in a pool for
the perfect exercise between higher intensity workouts -- swimming tones and
strengthens nearly every muscle group in the body, with virtually no impact
on the joints.

Set a good example. The risk of a non-obese child (aged 3 or under) becoming
an obese adult almost triples if both parents are obese. The study examined
the health records of more than 800 young adults aged 23-29, and compared
their height and weight measurements (body mass index) since birth with
those of their parents. The study also concluded that obese teens have more
than a 50 percent chance of becoming obese adults, even if neither parent is
obese.

Don't spend all your valuable gym time on a treadmill or stair climber. You
may love watching your "calories burned" tally climb, but you may do better
to cut it off to squeeze in weight training. Lifting boosts lean body mass,
which will rev up your metabolism over time. No matter how long you're on
the treadmill, it won't have this same effect. If you are too rushed at the
gym to add a weight-training routine, keep a small set of weights at home
for morning or evening workouts.
