By changing the way you snack, you may make it easier to lose weight. Eating
something every 3 - 4 hours sustains energy, helps build a day's worth of
good nutrition, and prevents hunger that may lead to overeating. Stock your
desk with the right stuff: Ready-to-eat whole-grain cereal; single-serving
microwave popcorn, fruit juices or low-fat pudding; vanilla wafers, fig bars
or ginger snaps without hydrogenated oils; instant oatmeal; applesauce;
canned fruit (in its own juice).

The best way to start eating healthier is to log everything you eat for 3
days. The first step in changing for the better -- see how often you eat 5
fruits and vegetables a day. Make reaching that mark your first goal. Better
yet, if you can boost your fruit and vegetable intake to 7 servings per day,
you will significantly increase the value of your diet.

Picking fresh produce... The cantaloupes are plump, the peaches look
luscious, but do you know flavorful produce when you see it? Look at the
color and shape. If the characteristic color of the produce is missing, pick
a different piece. Touch the produce -- firm is the best choice. If it is
too soft, it may be too ripe. Smell produce. Peaches, nectarines, melons and
tomatoes can be judged by their smell -- a strong scent means the item is
prime for eating.

profile, lowers your blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart disease and
colon cancer, and helps control your weight.
